| HAMweather is proud to announce a new break-through service: SuperSats!
Our SuperSats service represents some of the highest quality visible satellite imagery that are available on the Internet today! These high-resolution satellite images are updated at 20 minute intervals and allow users to view spectacular weather phenomena in significant detail. Our service offers imagery for 27 different regions across the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii. Additionally, we can also generate customized SuperSats views at multiple resolution levels, such as for a single metropolitan region (i.e. New York, Atlanta, Seattle).
Some great uses of SuperSats include:
- Storm Chasing:
Storm chasers, or even amateur weather observers, can use SuperSats to witness the initial stages of convective development in your chase zone (see example). As stated by Patrick Francis, our meteorological director and 17-year storm chasing veteran, "It is a very valuable tool to utilize the ever-evasive element of time at a critical juncture in the process of efficient weather observations. The ability for one to place themselves at the precise spot of convection initiation based upon timely delivery of high-quality visible satellite products greatly increases one's ability to be in the right place at the right time." The following are example SuperSats imagery during severe thunderstorm development:
- Emergency Management:
Our SuperSats imagery is valuable for individuals in both the public and private sectors. Emergency management organizations can assess potential and ongoing natural disaster risks utilizing our high-quality satellite imagery, such as severe weather outbreaks, hurricanes, flooding or volcanic activity. The level of detail offered allows such organizations to quickly determine the exact areas of greater risk and prepare and/or respond more effectively.
- Snow Observations:
SuperSats imagery is a great resource for ski resorts and winter weather fans where snowfall observations and ground accumulation totals are crucial. During a storm, our imagery can be used to discern if rain or snow is falling based on the cloud patterns and details. Then once the storm has passed, return to the same image to view the snow coverage that has accumulated, as demonstrated in the following examples:
